The importance of time management

More than Productivity, a Question of Sustainability

Managing time well is not just a question of doing more tasks in fewer hours - it is, above all, ensuring that what really matters gets the right attention at the right time. In a world where pressure is constant and resources (especially time) are limited, knowing how to prioritise is an essential skill for any professional.

Throughout my professional career, I have worked in organisations where time management was more than a necessity, it was an art, especially in the so-called Big 4. At Deloitte, a lifelong learning experience, I perfected time management, first my own, and then over the years, that of the various teams under my remit. A team, an organisation, where time management is achieved by everyone, results in a better working environment, more productivity, and above all a higher quality of life for people, which tends to achieve better results and above all greatly reduce turnover in organisations.

Good time management makes it possible:

  • Focus on prioritiesBy identifying what is urgent vs. what is important, we avoid wasting energy on low-impact tasks.
  • Stress reductionEffective planning avoids the accumulation of deadlines and that constant feeling of "chasing your tail".
  • More quality at workWith enough time to think, revise and execute, the end result is more solid.
  • Personal and professional balance: Well-managed time allows room for rest and personal life - and for me this is one of the best signs of professional performance.

Managing time is, in essence, managing our attention and energy. And whoever masters this art masters their own rhythm of life and work.
